ABOUT THE COMPANY

Databento is building the next generation data platform to power the world's largest institutions - starting with the radical idea that you should only pay for market data on a metered, pay-as-you-go basis. We eliminate tens of thousands in upfront data expenses, while giving you the instant flexibility to pick up real-time full exchange feeds or terabytes of historical data when you need it.

CULTURE

How do you show employees you appreciate them?

My job is to make sure no one works on weekends. It's to make sure that people observe holidays and use up their vacation hours. We give constant feedback, and let our team know that we're open to criticism and change. We also support people in their journey, whether they choose to grow with us in their career, or use us as a stepping stone to a better opportunity. I learned these lessons from my previous startup - it's important to understand that everyone has their own unique journey, and that it's our role to support each journey, no matter where it leads.

How are you creating a workplace of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging?

The majority of our team consists of people of color and/or gender minorities. This is at a tech firm headquartered in the United States. I think that speaks more to our culture than any DEI initiatives that we’re leveraging. It helps that we hire people globally and can pay them in their preferred currency, but the majority of our team lives in the US.

Why should someone work at your company?

While I don't think anyone "should" work at Databento, here’s some things that people typically like:

  • Your voice will be heard, and your contributions will be valued.
  • There's no politics and no assholes.
  • We're a chill team from 6 different countries and 5 different generations, which means that there isn't a single "persona" in our company (e.g. no tech bro persona).
  • We do a few in-person off-sites each year. Our last off-site was in Las Vegas in early June.
